FISHING
Shortly after the organization started, NPLB Outdoors began adding fishing trips to our list of services. Currently, we host over 15 fishing events annually across the United States. As with all our events, these trips are provided at no cost to deserving veterans.
Our adaptive fishing program ensures individuals with a wide range of injuries are able to participate and enjoy a relaxing day on the water. We have hosted veterans with upper and lower limb amputations, complete and incomplete spinal cord injuries at varying levels, vision-impairment and blindness, and other serious injuries.
Our mentors, which include experienced fishermen and professional fishing guides, are there to assist veterans of all skill levels. Participants learn about improving their technique, selecting appropriate tackle, boat safety, adaptive modifications and more.
Below are a few examples of the fishing trips we currently provide:
- Tuna Fishing Off-Shore.
- Striped Bass Fishing on The Chesapeake Bay.
- Tarpon Fishing in Florida.
- Fly Fishing for Trout on Back Country Streams.
- Bow Fishing for Snakeheads.
- Salmon Fishing on The Great Lakes.
- A Wide-Range of Lake/Pond Fishing From Boats and On Shore.
- Sturgeon Fishing in Washington State.
We continuously work with many private landowners, federal/state agencies, industry professionals and other like-minded groups to expand new outdoor opportunities for our wounded, injured and ill veterans.
“I never realized how much the sound of an explosion affected me until after I was home for a while. For me, healing began behind the gun and associating the blast sounds in a positive way…”
